Notice of Statutory Open House and Public Meeting
The purpose of the Statutory Open House and Public Meeting will be to give the public a formal opportunity to provide feedback regarding draft official plan policies prepared as part of the Shaping Muskoka Official Plan Review. Any person or agency may attend and make representation at the Open House and/or Public Meeting and/or make written submissions, either in support of, or in opposition to, all or parts of the proposed official plan policies. Written submissions will be accepted up to the date of adoption but are encouraged to be received prior to August 29, 2017. Explanation of the purpose and effect of the Official Plan Review and the Draft Official Plan policies: The Shaping Muskoka Official Plan (MOP) Review is an exciting project that explores and updates the policy framework that guides growth and physical change across Muskoka for the next 20 years. The draft official plan policies are intended to:
• Have regard to matters of provincial interest, demonstrate consistency with the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS), incorporate good planning principles, take into account the community’s vision for the future, and reflect regional circumstances.
• Integrate best practices and innovative approaches where possible and improve the readability and user friendliness of the MOP document.
• Incorporate existing background information and build on initial work already completed to update the MOP in an efficient and effective manner. • Establish a broad, upper tier policy framework which emphasizes coordination and cooperation amongst the Area Municipalities and the District on planning and development issues that cross municipal boundaries.
• Provide the strategic direction required to realize common goals and objectives.
• Implement the PPS using a “made in Muskoka” approach that recognizes the unique opportunities and challenges in the District and provides results that are outcomeoriented and evidence-based.
• Recognize the diversity that exists amongst the Area Municipalities and build on the strengths of the District as a whole and each of its component parts.
• Acknowledge the importance of the land use planning responsibilities that are vested with the Area Municipalities.
As the draft official plan policies would apply to The District Municipality of Muskoka in its entirety, no key map is attached to this notice. Additional information including copies of the draft official plan policies and related background information are available at www.muskoka.on.ca and at The District Municipality of Muskoka Planning and Economic Development Department.
