Dr. Norman Yan - Friends of Muskoka Watershed
Title: Protecting our lakes forever: Moving from Rehabilitation to Prevention and the Friends of the Muskoka Watershed's mission
We know that we can reverse past damage that our lakes have suffered. We’ve done it for acid rain and lead pollution and over-fertilization with phosphorus. But can we learn from this history to prevent the re-occurrence of old problems and emergence of new ones? Can we move from restoration to prevention? Norman Yan has been studying threats to our lakes for almost half a century and in this talk he will identify the key emerging threats to Muskoka lakes, and how they collectively increase the risk of algal blooms. He will then discuss how the Friends of the Muskoka Watershed is attempting to lead the effort to deal with these threats, so that we can protect the lakes we all love.
